Textiles of Mexico have a long history, since 1400 BC during pre-hispanic period.  Fiber used included from the yucca, palm, maguey plants as well as the use of cotton in the lowlands of the South part of Mexico.  After the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire the Spanish introduced new fibers such as silk and wool and the European foot treadle loom.  Today handcrafted included pre-hispanic clothing such as Huipils and sarapes, which are often embroided clothing that are made with natural dye fibers.  Handcrafts are produced by indigenous people-communities concentrated in the center and south of the country in states such as Mexico State, Oaxaca and Chiapas.
